![]() ![]() So if you see Recovery HD in the middle partition you know what happened. None of the cloning software clones multiple partitions at the same time.Īctually there is one that a couple people have used here, but it messes things up obviously as it doesn't add the free space to the MacintoshHD partition, leaving a huge chunk of free space at the bottom of the drive. If your going to erase and clone again, this time Zero erase the drive in disk utility first, then clone to map off bad sectors. The only thing I did on the new drive was download some things, not even sure what to do at this point, any help would be very much appreciated, thanks! I don't know what to do at this point besides deleting the 1TB and cloning it over again. Have Spotlight ignore that volume in it's preferences it's got the drive busy.Īfter trying to fix the 1TB with batchmod, I got it to the mouse screen (kind of grey) with nothing on it right before the login screen should show up. Updating boot support partitions for the volume as required. Reboot twice to reset EFI, also change the name of one of the boot drives to something else. You need to boot holding the option/alt key on a wired keyboard and select the volume to boot and set in System Preferences > Startup Disk. I woke up this morning, turned it on, and it got stuck at the white screen with an apple logo and the spinning wheel. I cloned my 500gig hard drive to a 1TB last night. So I like to keep people's options open, not closed. RecoveryHD has a lot of potential if someone gave a flying rats behind about putting themselves in a newbies situtation.Īlso it's Apple's software and they can deny cloning in a mere update if DU is used. I typically don't like to promote third party software if a free solution exists, but DU quite doesn't get the job done in my opinion which is quite sad actually. ![]() We had someone here today try that method via RecoveryHD and it failed, why I never recommend it, rather making a external boot recovery drive instead to grab files individually as the rest can be replaced. So how is a newbie supposed to know they also have to clone that too?Īlso DU doesn't update the clone which is faster, have scheduling or be able to exclude files or perform integrity checks etc., with DU one has to do the entire clone each time which takes longer and includes files that are corrupted and can't copy. ![]() I recall the last time we talked about this that it doesn't do multiple partitions at once. RHD is needed to restore the latest upgraded OS X version. Does Disk Utility also clone the hidden RecoveryHD partition and restore it on a new blank drive in the proper location? ![]()
